Abstract

1,177,326. Air gun. LOUIS MARX CO. Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 14957/ 68. Heading A6S. '[Also in Division F3] An air gun comprises a barrel 18 having a smooth bore of a low coefficient of friction, means situated behind the barrel and communicating therewith to direct air therethrough and an elongated projectile 102 having a rear end dimensioned to be a sliding fit within the bore of the barrel. In the construction shown the air supplying means comprises a spring extended, plastics material bellows 70 which is compressed by the release of a spring loaded plunger assembly 32. The plunger assembly 32 is held in its cocked position against its spring loading by a spring loaded sear 40 which co-operates with a catch member 38 on a shaft 30 of the plunger assembly 32. The sear 40 is withdrawn from the catch member 38 by a trigger 48. The catch member 38 is urged into its rearward, plunger assembly cocking position by a sleeve 66 of a manually operable cocking mechanism 56. The sleeve 66 is slidably mounted on the shaft 30 which passes through a bore in a guide disc 26 of a self lubricating material. To introduce a projectile into the bore of the barrel 18, the barrel is pivoted downwardly against the loading of a spring 94. In the firing position the rear end of the barrel which is chamfered (Fig. 3 not shown) is urged against a rubber ring housed in the forward end of the gun casing and surrounding the air passage. In a further embodiment the gun comprises a plurality of barrels rotatable about an axis, barrel indexing means being operated on actuation of the cocking mechanism (Figs. 8, 9, not shown). The projectile 102 comprises a body portion which is hollow and which tapers towards its forward end. The forward end of the projectile comprises a suction cup. (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The projectile may be provided with a weight adjacent the suction cup (Fig. 5).
