Abstract
422,675. Automatic guns. NORMAN, G., 322, Mansel Road, Small Heath, Birming- ham. May 24, 1934, No. 15534. [Class 119] Relates to firing mechanism adjustable for single-shot or continuous fire, of the kind in which the pivoted sear 8 is released by trigger mechanism 10, 11, the rod 11 of which is moved out of engagement with the sear when the last cartridge leaves the magazine by a pivoted trip member 24, a further disconnector 34 being provided which is adjustable out of the path of the breech bolt 108 for continuous fire and into the path of the bolt to cause disengagement of the rod 11 for single-shot fire. According to the invention, the disconnector 34 acts upon the sear 8 through the medium of the trip member.. The disconnector is shown mounted on an eccentric portion of the pivot pin 20 of the trip member and has a slot 32 engaging over a pin 33 on the trip member. When the pivot pin is rotated to the position shown for single-shot fire, the eccentric moves the disconnector 34 so that it projects into the path of the breech bolt which depresses it to move the pin 33 and operate the trip member to release the sear. Rotation of the pivot pin through 180 moves the disconnector out of the path of the breech block to permit of continuous fire, the sear being then held in the released position by the trigger mechanism until the magazine is emptied when a projection on the magazine follower rocks the trip 24. This co-acts with the end of the rod 11 and removes the shoulder 13 from the sear arm 14 to permit the sear to hold the breech block in the open position. The invention is shown applied to a gun as described in U.S.A. Specification 1,437,889, the frame 105 carrying the trigger mechanism being slidable from the rear in guides on the underside of the breech casing 101 and being retained by a spring catch 2 released by pressing a button 5.
