Abstract
448,500. Signal pistols. ACCLES, J. G., 273, Wellington Road, Perry Barr, Birming- ham. Nov. 9, 1934, No. 32239. [Classes 9 (ii) and 119] Relates to muzzle-loading signal pistols provided with a catch for retaining the cartridge in the barrel, and consists mainly in providing such pistols with a cartridge ejector for forcibly ejecting the cartridge when the retaining catch is released. In the form shown, the cartridge d is retained in the barrel c by the nose a<1> of a catch a pivoted at a<3> and urged by a spring a' to engage a groove d<1> in the cartridge. The catch can be moved out of action by a cam e<1> engaging a fork a<2> on the catch and operated by an external handle e<2> ; and when the catch is put out of action, the cartridge is ejected by a spring plunger h. A latch, constituted by a bell-crank lever or a spring bolt k, co-operates with the ejector h to lock the hammer g when the pistol is unloaded. The latch k may lock the hammer in the rebound position or either in the rebound or full-cock position by engaging with corresponding holes g' in the hammer. The top f<1> of the trigger f is adapted to engage beneath the cartridge catch a when the trigger is pulled to ensure the cartridge being held in the barrel while it is being fired. Moreover, the trigger has a lug f with an adjustable screw f<4> extending beneath the fork a<2> of the cartridge catch, and this catch is formed with an extension a<5>, so that when the catch is put out of action by the cam e<1> and still further depressed, it pulls the trigger by its action on the lug f<3>, and stops the released hammer before the firing position is reached by the abutment of a shoulder g<5> on the hammer against the extension a<5> of the catch.
