Abstract

237,708. Baker, W. July 4, 1924. Breech actions, drop-down barrel. - Ejecting mechanism for single-barrelled and under-andover guns, comprises a sliding extractor a, a sear k engaging a notch in the extractor, provision being made for an initial extracting movement, a cam lever f operated by a projection on the body when the gun is opened, and an intermediate plunger d and spring e for transmitting movement from the lever to the extractor leg. The sear k is tripped by the lever f towards the end of the opening movement, the previously compressed spring e then causing the ejecting movement. If the cartridge offers excessive resistance during the opening of the gun, the spring e becomes fully compressed and the plunger d itself bears against the extractor and forces it out. The sear may be turned to the operative position by a spring, or, when it is desired to make the ejector mechanism selective, by means dependent on the firing mechanism. As shown, the sear is raised by a rod p actuated by a second rod o when the firing hammer n has fallen. Specification 5966/89 is referred to.
