Abstract

572,440. Automatic guns. LANCHESTER, G. H., and SOMERS, A. E. Sept. 30, 1940, No. 14738. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] Relates to trigger-mechanism adjustable for continuous and single-shot fire and of the kind in which a detent 28, Fig. 2, carried by a stoplever 24 engaged by the breech bolt, lifts a trigger-pawl 8 away from the trigger-nose 1a during singe-shot fire, hand-operated means being provided to move the detent sideways away from the trigger-pawl for continuous fire. According to the invention, a rotary changefire cam-faced thumb-button 30 is provided on the trigger-housing 3, the trigger and changefire mechanism forming a complete unit 4 readily removable from the barrel-assembly 40, Fig. 4. The parts are shown adjusted to the position for single-shot fire. The trigger 1 operates the sear 21, Fig. 5, through a spring- controlled trigger-pawl 8 which is raised, to permit the return of the rod 12 and sear 21, by the detent 28 on an outside stop-lever 24, Fig. 2, that has a projection 26 in the path of the breech-bolt. The button 30 has shaped recesses engaging a spring pin 33 to force the button into either of its two positions of adjustment. The button carries on a spindle 29 a cam face 37 which, when the button is adjusted for continuous fire, moves the detent 28 laterally out of the path of the pawl 8 so that sustained pressure on the trigger holds the sear depressed.
