Abstract

622,387. Automatic firearms. REISING, E. G. March 17, 1947, No. 7376. [Class 119] A firearm has a trigger-operated disconnector which actuates a firing hammer sear and extends into the path of a member movable with the breech bolt, the disconnector being fitted with a spring-controlled element which is moved by the member on the bolt to a position in which it constitutes a cam surface for deflecting the disconnector from that member. The element also serves to maintain the disconnector in the " sear-disconnected " position during the last portion of the movement of the bolt towards the breech-closed position. In the form shown in the Figure, the trigger 46 pivoted at 48 and spring-pressed by spring 50 has a disconnector 56 pivoted on it at 54. The notch 58 on the disconnector normally engages a notch 38 on sear 34 which engages the hammer 20 by nose 42. An extension 66 spring-pressed by spring 64 is pivoted on the disconnector. In action, pressure on the trigger pivots the sear anti-clockwise to release the hammer which strikes the firing pin 18 on the breech-bolt 14. On recoil of the bolt, the part 28 carried by action slide 26 and engaging a groove in the bolt contacts the part 66 and the force of the recoil causes it to pivot against its spring so that the action slide rides over the top of it, thus causing the disconnector to be pushed down so that the notch 58 cannot engage notch 38. Only when the bolt returns to the fully-closed position can the part 28 drop back into contact with part 66 and the notches 58 and 38 engage thereby cocking the gun.
