Abstract

578,728. Automatic guns. HINGSTON, W. H. July 1, 1937, No. 18283. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to the firing mechanism of automatic guns having a high rate of fire in which, during firing, the sear 1 is positively held away from the bent 4 by a trigger-operated slide 6 engaging the arm 1b of the sear. According to the invention, an intermediate lever or tumbler 9 is provided on the slide, one arm of the tumbler engaging with the bent-carrying member x, such as the breech block, and the other with the arm 1a of the sear 1. This arrangement ensures that, on letting go the trigger, the sear is moved by the bent-carrying member into full engagement with the bent, such movement occurring after the bent in its backward movement has passed the sear irrespective of the time at which the trigger is let go. A ball detent 5 retains the sear in its extreme positions.
