<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

"Detent device for automatic weapons".
The present invention relates to a trigger device for automatic weapons for firing with an open bolt.
In particular, the present invention relates to an expansion device allowing the firing with an open breech of automatic weapons conditioned to be able to be supplied by strips of cartridges and the firing regime of which is not automatically limited.
In automatic weapons of the type described above, the bolt secured to a slide is pushed towards the rear of the weapon by the pressure of the gases. The cartridge case is hanging during this recoil stroke extracted from the chamber and ejected from the weapon.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
After said recoil stroke, a recovery spring, compressed by the bolt, returns the latter forward, even if the shooter has released the trigger in order to stop the firing.
At this time, the feed system has already advanced the cartridge strip so that a cartridge is in the ready-to-feed position. The cylinder head then pushes this cartridge into the chamber. The firing of these weapons is said to be "with closed breech".
All automatic weapons that can fire a lot of shots in short time have their barrel that heats up very quickly. The weapons with closed breech have the disadvantage that when the barrel reaches a sufficient temperature, the cartridge which remains chambered after the shooting heats up in contact with the chamber until igniting its powder after variable times. This unexpected and uncontrolled shot is dangerous; is designated by the technical term "cook-off".
The object of the invention is to ensure that automatic "closed breech" firing weapons conditioned to be able to be fed by cartridge strips and whose firing regime is not automatically limited, do not exhibit the aforementioned drawback.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
To this end, the invention relates to an expansion device allowing shooting with an open bolt, i.e. a device located in the rear part of the weapon which stops the movement in front of the breech and thus prevents the introduction of a cartridge into the barrel chamber when the shooter releases the firing lever.
Such an expansion device allowing the firing with an open breech of automatic weapons of the type in which the breech has a notch capable of cooperating with a nose of the breech retainer, the breech being able to be released from the breech retainer intervention of a detent lever, consists essentially in that the anterior free end of the detent lever is provided with a detent hook having a free end or tail capable of cooperating with the rear end of the cylinder head; a spout directed towards the breech retainer which can cooperate with a spout of the breech retainer and an extension or lateral stop which can cooperate with a cam-shaped extension provided on a spring leaf fixed on the carcass.
In order to better highlight the characteristics and advantages of the invention, an exemplary embodiment is described below with reference to the appended drawings in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
FIG. 1 represents an automatic weapon provided with a trigger device allowing the firing with open breech according to the invention; Figure 2 shows on a larger scale the part indicated by F2 in Figure 1; Figures 3 to 6 show four positions of the device according to the invention; Figures 7 to 10 show on a larger scale the parts indicated by F7, F8, F9 and F10 in Figures 3 to 6; Figure 11 is a schematic section along the line
XI-XI of Figure 7; Figure 12 is a schematic section along the line
XII-XII of figure 9.
Figures 1 and 2 show a weapon 1 applying a trigger device for shooting with an open breech.
This weapon can be mounted on a tripod, mount or the like.
In these figures we note ea as known arch elements and involved in the explanation below, the detent lever 2 and .the cocking cable 3 fixed in a known manner not shown in the drawings to the cocking slide can be driven against a spring which normally pushes it forward.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Said slide can drive the bolt backwards.
In Figures 3 and 7 is indicated the rear position of the cylinder head 4, i.e. the position in which the cylinder head spring is compressed. In this position the cartridge is released from its strip by the breech 4 and positioned in front of the chamber of the weapon.
According to the invention the cylinder head 4 is retained in this position by the attachment of a notch 5 in the cylinder head 4 by the nose 6 of a cylinder head stopper 7 which articulates freely around a pivot 8 on the end of a rod 9 provided at its other end with a stop 10, for example a nut screwed onto the threaded free end of the rod 9, forming a stop against an appendix 11 secured to the carcass 12 and in which the rod 9 can move.
Between the rod 9 and the appendix 11 is mounted a spring 13 holding or returning the retainer 7 and thus the cylinder head 4 in its rear position. The stopper 7 is also provided with one or more stopper pushers 14 pushed under the influence of a spring 15 against the carcass 12, in order to pivot the stopper 7 towards the cylinder head 4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
At the rear end of the carcass 12 is mounted on an axis 16 said expansion lever 2.
This lever is constantly pushed towards its rest position, i.e. towards the firing stop position, by a spring 17 provided between the lever 2 and the carcass 12.
At the front end of the lever 2 pivots a catch hook or detent hook 18 comprising three essential parts in particular a free end or tail 19, an extension or spout 20 directed towards the breech catch 7 and a lateral extension or stop 21, for example in the form of a rib.
The hook 18 is permanently biased by a spring 22 tending to cause said hook 18 to tilt towards the breech retainer 7.
In order to allow the hook 18 to act on the retainer 7, the latter has a spout, 23.
Finally a spring leaf 24 is fixed relative to the carcass 12, provided at its free end with a cam-shaped extension 25 on which the hook 18 can rest.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Figure 3 shows the stop position of the weapon. The breech 4 is retained in its rear position by the cooperation of its notch 5 with the nose 6 of the breech retainer 7. During the cocking of the weapon, the breech 4 is put in this position by pulling it towards the rear using the cocking cable 3.
The detent lever is in its rest position and the catch hook 18 is positioned by the spout 23 of the catch 7, the spout 20 of the hook 18 being located below the free end of the spout 23 of the '' cylinder head retainer 7.
To move to the firing position the trigger lever 2 is biased against the spring 17 downwards, i.e. in the position as shown in Figures 4 and 8.
The displacement of the lever 2 can be obtained in any way whatsoever, either by acting directly on the lever 2, or by acting on the trigger lever 2 by any remote control means.
Following the tilting of the lever 2, the breech stopper 7 pivots upward under the action of the spout 20 of the hook 18 acting below the spout 23 of the stopper.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
In this position as shown in Figures 4 and 8 the nose 6 of the retainer 7, on the one hand, and the free end of the tail 19 of the hook 18, on the other hand, are at a level allowing the free passage of the cylinder head 4. The tail 19 of the hook is at this time distant from the cylinder head 4 by a distance D.
The latter receives at this time, under the influence of its incorporated recuperator spring, on the one hand, and by a part of the energy released by the firing of a cartridge, on the other hand, its back and forth movement allowing automatic operation of the weapon.
To stop firing, it suffices to release the trigger lever 2 as shown in FIGS. 5 and 9. As a result, under the action of the spring 17, the hook 18 is lowered.
However, the descent of the hook 18 is stopped by the fact that the lateral extension 21 of the hook 18 abuts against the cam-shaped extension 25 provided on the spring leaf 24.
In this position the free end of the tail 19 of the hook 18 is at a lower level relative to the upper level of the cylinder head 4 (distance D1 in the figure
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
5) which has the effect that at a determined moment of the retraction of the cylinder head 4 the latter urges the hook 18 and causes it to tilt backwards which has the effect that the spout 23 of the cylinder head retainer 7 is released from the beak 20 of the hook 18 and the extension 21 of the hook 18 passes.
It follows that the breech retainer 7 pivots about its axis 8 under the influence of the pushers 14 downwards so that the nose 6 of the breech retainer 7 comes into contact with the breech 4 and that the latter by means of its notch 5, during its return movement collides with the retainer 7 hence the stopping of the breech 4 with the cartridge which drives and keeps out of the barrel chamber of the weapon . The latter is then "with open breech".
When the retainer 7 hooks the cylinder head 4, the spring 13, by its compression, reduces the stresses.
At the end of the return of the lever 2 to its shooting stop position, the spout 20 of the hook 18 is in place to reac hook the spout 23 of the stopper 7.
The invention is in no way limited to the example described above.
