<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Submachine gun The present invention relates to a submachine gun making it possible to fire shot by shot or by bursts.
In such a weapon, it is essential to prevent any false maneuver by the shooter which risks causing serious accidents. For this purpose, the submachine gun according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a breech capable of being brought into the cocking position by a lever, a locking device opposing the recoil of said breech during the firing, this device comprising a mobile part mounted on a horizontal axis around which it can pivot,
the forward pivoting of said movable part being capable of being caused by a lock bearing on the upper face of the latter and capable of being actuated by the cocking lever, a device for locking the percussion hammer constituted by a part mounted on a horizontal axis and comprising a vertical extension bearing against the rear face of a groove made in the lower part of the cylinder head,
a device for locking the trigger mechanism and the percussion hammer acting as soon as the magazine is withdrawn from the weapon and consisting of a horizontal arm secured to a lever mounted to pivot on a horizontal axis and resting on the upper part of the magazine and a removable housing in which are housed said locking device for the breech, the hammer hammer and its locking device, as well as said device for locking the trigger mechanism and the hammer hammer. The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, an embodiment of the submachine gun, object of the invention.
In these drawings, FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a submachine gun. Fig. 2 is a section, drawn on a larger scale, by line II-II of FIG. 3 showing the different parts of the machine-gun mechanism after the shot has started. Fig. 3 is a corresponding plan view. Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3, showing the organs after the recoil of the breech.
As can be seen in these figures, the submachine gun consists of a tubular element forming the breech box 1 receiving at its front part the barrel 2 held by a knurled nut 3, the breech box being closed at its other end by a plug knurled 4. Inside this breech box 1 is housed the breech 5 provided at its lower part, and over part of its length, with a groove 6. At the center of the breech, the mobile striker 7 is constantly held back by a return spring 8.
The breech 5 comprises a lever 9 guided in a groove 10 made in the breech box 1 and making it possible to carry out the arming maneuver of the submachine gun by moving the breech 5 back into the breech box 1 against the bolt. action exerted by a spring not shown. The cylinder head 5 coin-

also carries a recess 11 in which the percussion hammer 12 can move.
The cylinder head is locked by a part 13 mounted to pivot on an axis 14 carried by a housing 15 housed in the support 16 of the cylinder head box 1 and having at its upper part an edge 17 cooperating with a notch 18 made on the underside and rear of cylinder head 1.
The cocking lever 9 carried by the breech 1 cooperates with a latch 19 housed in a recess 20 made in the breech 1 and opening onto the underside thereof, said latch being constantly kept in contact with the lever 9 thanks to a spring 21, and the lever 9 being able to move in a slot 22 made in the body of the cylinder head 1.
In the bottom of the housing 15 is arranged a stopper 23 comprising a tongue 24 guided in a notch 25 made in the lower part of the part 13, the stop 23 resting by its vertical faces on both the front face 13a of the part 13 and on a heel 26 carried by the trigger 27 pivotally mounted on an axis 28 carried by the housing 15, the pivoting of the trigger 27 being carried out against the action exerted by two springs 29 arranged around rods of guide 30. The locking of the breech 5 is therefore permanent, and only the action of the finger on the trigger 27 causes the unlocking which, consequently, releases the breech only when firing.
On an axis 31 carried by the housing 15, is mounted the hammer 12 integral with a rod 32 articulated at 33 and guided in an opening 34 made in the body of the part 13, the pivoting of the hammer 12 in the direction of the arrow F (fig. 2) taking place against the action exerted by a spring 35 disposed around the rod 32 and bearing on the front face of the part 13.
A part 36 constituting the trigger is mounted on the axis 28 using a buttonhole 37, this part 36 comprising a latch 38 bearing on the rear part of the trigger 27 and a latch 39 resting on a shoulder 40 of the percussion hammer 12. The trigger 36 is subjected to the action of a spring 41 housed in a recess 41a made in the body of the trigger 27. A part 42 mounted on a pin 43 carried by the housing 15 has a vertical extension 42a bearing against the rear face 6a of the groove 6.
This part 42 is provided with a beak 44 having a curved face 44a resting on a part of the periphery of the percussion hammer 12 which comprises two notches 45 and 45a, the role of which will be explained below. The part 42 can pivot around its axis 43 against the action exerted by a spring 46 disposed around a rod 47 guided in a support 48 carried by the housing 15.
On the upper part of the store 49 the horizontal arm 50 rests on an elbow lever 51 pivoting on a pin 52 carried by the housing 15 and connected by means of a pin 53 to a cleat 54 having at its rear part a heel 55. A spring 56, housed in a recess 57 made in the body of the lever 51, and bearing against the front vertical wall of the housing 15, tends to cause the lever 51 to pivot forward.
The operation of the machine gun described above is as follows. Referring to fig. 2 showing the position occupied by the various components after the start of the blow, it can be seen that the breech 5 is here locked by the part 13, the edge 17 thereof being engaged in the notch 18 made in the lower part of the cylinder head.
When he wishes to move the breech 5 back, the shooter causes, by actuating the cocking lever 9 to perform this operation, a slight displacement of the latter towards the rear, which has the effect of causing, against of the spring 21, a downward movement of the latch 19, which presses on the upper face of the part 13 which pivots at this moment around its axis 14 in the direction of the arrow FI (FIG. 2), thus allowing the cylinder head 5 to move back and come to occupy the position shown in FIG. 4.
Simultaneously, the breech 5 has caused the hammer 12 to pivot in the direction of the arrow F, which is immobilized in this position thanks to the spout 44 which has come to be housed in the notch 45, as seen in FIG. 4. Simultaneously, the trigger 36, while pivoting around the axis 28, has moved rearwardly so that the latch 38 has come to occupy the position shown in FIG. 4.
When the shooter lets the cocking lever escape, the breech 5, under the action of the spring not shown, returns to the front, after a cartridge has been engaged in the chamber, and the bolt 19 resumes its function. initial position, as shown in fi-. 4. The cylinder head continuing its forward stroke, the rear face 6a of the groove 6 abuts on the vertical extension 42a of the part 42, causing the latter to pivot forward, which has the effect of release the spout 44 from the notch 45.
As soon as the spout 44 is released from the notch 45, the percussion hammer 12 pivots slightly around the axis 31, in the direction of the arrow Fz (fig. 4), until the notch 45a comes to rest against the cleat 39, so that the percussion hammer 12 is still locked.
As soon as the shooter presses the trigger 27, the rear part of the latter, by lifting the latch 38 of the trigger 36, causes the latter to pivot, which has the effect of disengaging the latch 39 from the notch 45a, thus allowing the percussion hammer 12, under the action of the spring 35, to return to the position corresponding to that shown in FIG. 2. Simultaneously, the trigger 27 causes, thanks to the latch 23, the forward pivoting of the part 13, which allows the breech 5 to perform its recoil movement again.
If, for any reason whatsoever, the cylinder head has not completed its entire forward stroke, the face
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
posterior 6a of the groove 6 does not abut the vertical extension 42a of the part 42, and the spout 44 remains engaged in the notch 45, which has the effect of maintaining the percussion hammer 12 in the position shown in FIG. 4.
When the magazine 49 is engaged in its housing, the arm 50 of the lever 51 comes to bear on the upper part of the latter and the latch 54 occupies the position shown in FIG. 2 and 4. As soon as the magazine is removed from its housing, the lever 51 pivots, under the action of the spring 56, around its axis 52, in the direction of arrow F3 (fig. 4), which has the effect to cause the rearward displacement of the cleat 54, the heel 55 coming to be housed at this time under the nose 27a of the trigger 27 by opposing any pivoting of the latter forward. It can therefore be seen that, as soon as the magazine 49 is withdrawn from its housing, the trigger 27 and consequently the percussion mechanism are locked.
The housing 15 is removably fixed in the support of the cylinder head box 16 by means of the pin 52 and a screw 58 which is screwed into the handle 59, which allows the rapid interchangeability of the housing 15.
It can be seen from the above that the submachine gun described above and shown in the drawings can be used without risk of accidents thanks to the devices ensuring the locking of the various parts of its mechanism.
In addition, all the parts of the mechanism external to the breech being housed in a housing fixed removably in the breech box support, it is possible to replace quickly and conveniently without the help of a gunsmith and without any repair operation. 'fitting all these parts by others, for example in case of breakage of parts, or for any other reason, without running the risk of losing any of these parts and wasting time.
In addition, thanks to the interchangeability of the housing, it is possible to build up stocks thereof for an accelerated overhaul of a large batch of weapons, even far from any repair shop and without the intervention of a specialized staff.
The simplicity of assembly of all the members constituting the mechanism allows a significant reduction in the cost price of the weapons. The maintenance of the mechanism is, moreover, made extremely easy due to the small number of parts which compose it.
