1389756 Firing pin stop COLT INDUSTRIES OPERATING CORP 19 Sept 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 43377/72 Heading F3C A safety device which limits the forward movement of a firing pin 24, Fig. 1, comprises a latch 42 which is slidably mounted in a chamber 44, Fig. 2, of a frame member 12 and is urged towards the firing pin by a spring 68, having an end abutting a back sight 50 mounted on the frame member 12. The latch 42, Figs. 2 and 3, has a pin 60 received in a passage 62 formed in the frame member 12, is recessed at 52 to receive a shoulder 38, Fig. 1, of the firing pin 24 therein, and has an arcuate portion 56, Fig. 3, engageable with a portion 36, Fig. 1 of the firing pin which is intermediate the shoulder 38 and a shoulder 32 also formed on the firing pin. The latter is urged, by a spring 30 mounted in a firing pin passage 26, towards a hammer 22. The forward movement of the firing pin 24, being limited when a surface 54, Fig. 3, abuts the shoulder 38, Fig. 1, of the firing pin, ensures that an end 28 of the latter is maintained in a firing pin opening 58 in a safety member 34, thus permitting free movement of the firing pin towards the hammer 22 should the end 24a of the firing pin be subjected to a blow from a round (not shown) when entering chamber 20 of barrel 16 of the firearm.
