Abstract

1,079,587. Automatic firearm. COLT'S Inc. Oct. 11, 1965 [Jan. 21, 1965], No. 43098/65. Heading F3C. An automatic firearm 10 is provided with a bolt carrier assembly 18 which comprises a sleevelike bolt carrier 48 having a bore 50. Slidably received in the bore 50 is a shuttle 70 having a bifurcated sear release working in a keyway 68 in the bolt carrier and co-operating in its forward position, when it abuts a cross-pin 76 with the automatic sear 58. At the beginning of the forward movement of the bolt carrier 48 the shuttle abuts a lip 72 of the firearm buffer assembly and is carried forward by the bolt carrier. On the seating and locking of the bolt carrier the shuttle moves forward under its own inertia and triggers a shot. The shuttle may be provided with a headed rod which fitted in the shuttle in one longitudinal direction is totally housed within the shuttle and allows the shuttle to slide and in the reverse direction clamps the shuttle against the pin 76 such that movement of the bolt carrier itself triggers a shot (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). In a further embodiment the shuttle which comprises a head slidable in the bolt carrier and a guide rod projecting rearwardly therefrom co-operates with a pivoted lever, the lever co-operating with the automatic sear to fire a shot (Fig. 4, not shown).
