Abstract

1290288 A safety device for a firing pin SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES 19 Aug 1971 [24 Aug 1970] 38870/71 Heading F3C A safety device for the firing pin 4 of a hand firearm has a spring-loaded safety pin 11 which, when in the safety position, engages into a recess 10 in the firing pin 4 and which has an extension 11a acted upon by a safety lever 12. A trigger bar 14 is movable by a trigger 9 and is connected to a firing hammer 8 and to the safety lever 12. A spring-loaded catch lever 13 is provided and engages in a first notch 8a in the firing hammer 8 when the latter is cocked. The safety lever 12 has a lug 12a which, when the safety lever 12 is pivoted to displace the safety pin 11, simultaneously pivots the catch lever 13 into a position which frees the firing hammer 8. As shown in Fig. 1 the catch lever 13 engages the notch 8a in the firing hammer 8 and the firing pin 4 is secured against axial movement by the safety pin 11. Actuation of the trigger 8 moves the trigger bar 14 and an extension 14a thereof pivots the firing hammer 8 into the cocked position, alternatively the hammer may be moved to the cocked position by the breech 5. The catch lever 13 then engages a notch 8b in the firing hammer 8. Further movement of the trigger 9 causes a projection 14b of the trigger bar 14 to engage behind the lug 12a of the safety lever 12 which is pivoted so that the safety pin 11 frees the firing pin 4. The lug 12a then engages the projection 13a on the catch lever 13 which is pivoted out of the notch 8b as shown in Fig. 2. The pivoting of the firing hammer 8 causes the shoulder 14a to contact a portion 8c of the firing hammer, the trigger bar 14 is released and the firing hammer is urged against the firing pin 4 by a striker spring 6. The firing hammer is cocked by the recoil of the breech 3, the catch lever 13 engages the notch 8b in the hammer 8 and the safety pin 11 locks the firing pin 4. Uncocking is effected by a lever 15, Figs. 3 and 4, which is pivoted at 17 and is urged by a spring (not shown). The lever 15, having a pin 18 thereon, engages a slot 19a in an unlocking disc 19, the latter being mounted on the same axis as the hammer 8 and lever 12. The disc 19 has a lug 19b which co-operates with the projection 13a on the lever 13 and has a stop 19c which engages the hammer 8. The disc 19 turns clockwise when the lever 15 turns anti-clockwise, the catch lever 13 is forced out of the notch 8b and the hammer is therefore freed. The hammer is caught by the stop 19c of the disc 19. Slow release of the lever 15 causes the catch lever 13 to engage the notch 8a Fig. 1 of the hammer 8. The safety pin 11 remains in engagement with the firing pin 4 during the uncocking operation.
