1368581 Automatic pistol COLT INDUSTRIES OPERATING CORP 19 Sept 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 43378/72 Heading F3C A recoil operated automatic pistol 10, Fig. 1, comprises a frame 12, a spring 28, a slide 16 which is urged forwardly by the spring 28, a stop 18 formed by a wall of the frame 12, and a combination spring guide and buffer 50 which is made of synthetic plastics material and has an integral head 52 positioned between the slide 16 and the stop 18 for engagement with an integral sleeve 54 of the slide to absorb the impact energy of the latter upon recoil movement of the slide to its rear position. A barrel bushing 55 is carried by the slide 16 in overlying parallel relation to sleeve 54. In a modification the head 52 provided with a locating stud which is received in an opening 58, Fig. 2, in the frame 12. In use a trigger 30, mounted on a pin 32, actuates a hammer (not shown) and a round 26, Fig. 1, is fired whereupon automatic operation of the slide 16 is effected. The barrel 14 is located during reciprocation of the slide 16 by a barrel guide and stop mechanism 34 which includes a barrel lug 36 and camming pins 38, 40. The lug 36 has front and rear abutments 42, 44 and, as the slide is thrust rearwardly under the reaction force of the gases formed upon explosion of the round 26, the abutment 44 engages the pin 40 and cams the barrel downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 2, so that the barrel can move to its rear limit position. The recoil impact energy of the slide 16 has been absorbed by the sleeve 54 of the slide striking the head 52 of the buffer 50. When the slide 16 is returned by the spring 28 to the position shown in Fig. 1, the barrel is raised into engagement with the slide by the pin 38 engaging the abutment 42. The barrel 14 is now in its forward limit position.
