Abstract

1,224,724. Breech locking mechanism. HECKLER & KOCH G.m.b.H. 20 Jan., 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 3091/69. Heading F3C. A firearm having a barrel 1 and a breech block 5 displaceable within a receiver 4 has a lock control member 7 adapted to co-operate with locking elements 9 engaging the breech block 5 and also engaging a recess in a rearward extension 10 to lock the block to the barrel at the instant of firing and to disengage the barrel from the breech block on forward movement of the barrel within the receiver after firing. To this end the locking elements, comprising balls 9, co-operate with inclined surfaces 8 and 12 on the control member and the barrel extension respectively. The barrel may be moved forward by hand to release the block, alternatively grooves 16 within the chamber 2 and the bore or a muzzle brake may be provided to allow gas pressure to move the barrel. A return spring (not shown) is provided for the barrel. A cartridge ejector may be provided on the barrel and an inclined face on the rear of the latter be provided for receiving and inserting a cartridge. The lock member 7 may be movable relatively to the receiver casing to operate the firing device 13.
