Abstract

1282214 Automatic firearm ENVIRONMENTAL INDUSTRIES 10 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 28191/70 Heading F3C An automatic firearm comprises a frame 1 on which a receiver 14 and barrel 13 assembly is mounted, a spring biased bolt 21 being housed in the receiver 14 for reciprocation therein. The firing mechanism consists of a trigger 5 and sear 41 and a magazine 4 is mounted in the frame 1 with its ammunition discharge portion adjacent the breech end of the barrel. One end 9 of a trigger guard 7 is disposed adjacent the discharge portion of the magazine 4 and extends towards the breech end of the barrel for guiding rounds of ammunition into the barrel from the magazine. The magazine 4 may be held in the frame by a spring loaded, manually operable latch 34. The breech bolt 21 is brought into its cocked position manually by a handle 25 mounted in the line of sight of the firearm and which co-operates with a slot 30 in the upper portion of the receiver 14. The handle is rotatably mounted on the bolt 21 and is non-symmetrical about its longitudinal axis so that in one rotary position the shank thereof can co-operate at either end of the slot with an enlargement of the slot to hold the bolt in its cocked or battery positions. In a second rotary position the shank of the handle can move freely in the slot. The outer end of the handle is provided with a sight passage 33 so that when sighting, the foresight 15 is only visible when the handle is in the bolt unlocked condition. The bolt is provided with an extractor (Figs. 7, 8, not shown) and an ejector rod 49 passing within the bolt is fixed to the frame 1. The firearm has a retractable stock 19 which is mounted on a pair of rods 20 which are held in one of two positions by locking rods 54, 55 under the action of a manually operable, spring loaded pin 53.
