Abstract

1,103,153. Grenade launcher. COLTS Inc. 22 June, 1966, No. 27879/66. Heading F3C. A grenade launcher comprises a housing 10 attached to the barrel 16 of a rifle by means of mountings 18, 20, the mounting 18 abutting a shoulder adjacent the rear end of the barrel to take the recoil of the launcher. Within the housing 10 is mounted, for relative guided movement thereto, a barrel 12 about the rear end of which a grip member 70 is pivoted. The barrel 12 is locked in its retracted position within the housing 10 by a locking lug 86 on the grip member 70 engaging within a recess 84 in the housing. The housing is further provided with an opening (88), (Fig. 2, not shown), through which a grenade cartridge 14 is passed while the barrel is in its extended position to load the launcher. The extension is effected by pivoting the grip member 70 anticlockwise to unlock the lug 86 and then urging the grip member forwardly. The grip member is held in its unlocking position by means of a spring-loaded plunger assembly 96, 106, another part 100 of the assembly bearing on the grip member pivot-pin to hold this pin in place. The cartridge 14 is held within the barrel by a spring-loaded plunger 112. The firing mechanism of the grenade launcher comprises a firing-pin 164 held in an inoperative position or a cocked position by the co-operation of a spring-loaded sear 200 with one of two shoulders provided on the firing-pin. The firing-pin 164 is cocked by exerting manual force on a firing-pin button 194 and released for firing by the manual depression of a sear button 218 connected to the sear. The sear button 218 is shielded normally by a spring-loaded, hinged cover 219. A cartridge extractor consists of a leaf spring 132 the forward end 134 of which is rearwardly curved to engage the rim 142 of the cartridge. The housing 10 and the barrel 12 are held in any of their relatively extended positions by means of a spring 128 which is mounted on the housing 10 and bears frictionally upon the barrel 12. In a modification (Figs. 7 to 9, not shown), the sear is rotatable to release the firing-pin and the trigger is mounted adjacent the trigger of the rifle to which the grenade launcher is attached, the trigger being connected to the sear by means of a linkage.
