Abstract

644,987. Feeding webs. TURNER, C. H. June 14, 1946, No. 17872. [Class 100 (i)] In a cloth or piece-feeding device, to remove creases, folds or rolls from the selvedges or edges of the material the edge or selvedge of the material is passed between at least two adjacent blades arranged in staggered parallel relationship so as to pass over one blade and then under the next or vice-versa. The device comprises a bottom-plate 3 and top-plate 1 hinged at 2 between which plates the material is passed to a tentering or like textile machine, the device being secured to the main frame such as the guide bars or chain rails of the machine by a slot 4. The plate 3 has a slot 13 in which lie upper and lower blades 5 and 6, preferably overlapping, the blades each having an arm 7 pivoted at 9 in bosses 8 secured one to the upper and one to the lower side of the plate 3. Each arm 7 is spring-loaded each side of the fulcrum 9 by springs 10 adjustable in tension by setscrews 11 so that the overlap of the blades is adjustable. An edge guide 14 is provided and the material is passed under a pivoted bridge piece 14a before passing over blade 6, under blade 5 and then under plate 1. To give the correct line for feeding the material, an electric contact mechanism 16 may be provided having a feeler arm 15 for engaging the edge of the material. The distance between the plates 1 and 3 may be adjustable by means of a screw 16<SP>1</SP>.
