[Class 120(i)] [Also in Group VIII] A carded web is spread by passing under tension over semi-circular bowed spreader bars 54 to 57 secured to rotatably mounted bars 58 to 61, 58 and 59, (not shown), which can be rotated so as not to contact or so as to exercise maximum spreading action on the web material. Fig. 11 shows a modified spreading arrangement in which the web passing from drafting rolls 36 to rolls 37 passes over a saddle-backed part 103 the curvature of which serves to spread the tensioned fibres.
