Scutching-apparatus.-In a machine of the kind described in Specification 256,621 the flax &c. fed between the drum 1 and belt 3 is deflected by a plate d of the cross-section shown to the auxiliary drums 5, 9, 7 and the breaking bars 10, 10'. The plate d and bars 10, 10' are adjustable horizontally and vertically.
