Abstract

308,339. Ellis, R. E., (Rossweiner Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 22, 1927. Registering webs.-In a cloth-rigging machine the parallel bars 4 between which the cloth passes on its way from the triangular board 3 to the delivery rolls 5, 6 are moved laterally by electric, pneumatic, or other means under the control of feelers' 10, 11 mounted on a carriage 7 movable on guides 19 in the direction of the plane of the doubled cloth, the arrangement being such that if only one feeler 10, 11 engages one edge of the cloth, the bars 4 are moved in a direction which will tend to bring the cloth edges level with each other, but if both feelers engage both edges, the carriage 7 will be moved away from the edges of the cloth, and vice versa. The carriage 7 is recessed centrally and fitted with a tongue 21 on each side of which the two edges 24, 25, Fig. 5, of the fabric pass. The feelers 10, 11 may make and break contact with the tongue or control other contacts 22, 23. An electric control system is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 7. The carriage 7 and the bars 4 are moved in one or the other direction by belt gearing 32 and reversing gearing 16, 15 according as the coils q or r, or m or n are energized. These coils are connected through relays 50 - - 53 with the contacts 22, 23 in the manner shown. Each of these relays has two contacts a, b and an operating coil s. When neither contact 22, 23 is closed nonaof the coils s will be excited and all four switch arms c will touch the contacts a, and the coils q will be energized, causing the carriage 7 to be moved away from the fabric. If both feelers 10, 11 do not engage the edges of the fabric, both contacts 22, 23 will be closed, the switch arms c will touch the contacts b, and the coil r will be energized and the carriage 7 moved towards the edge of the fabric. If only the contact 22 is closed the switches will occupy the positions shown and the coil n will be energized, causing the bars 4 to be moved in one direction. Movement in the other direction will be effected when the contact 23 only is closed. The circuit can be broken periodically by a switch 56 running in synchronism with a machine for piling the rigged fabric. Over-regulation may be prevented by arranging that the feelers 10, 11 are adjusted in the carriage 7, e.g. by screws 70, 71, Fig. 9, splined shafts 67, 68, ard gearing 65, 66 from the slide 17 carrying the bars 4, or the feelers can be fixed in the carriage 7 and the contacts with which they engage can be movable.
