[Class 60. ] Band apparatus ; gauges.-A machine for sandpapering parallel or slightly converging faces on drawers, sliding tables, &c. consists of a bed a upon which is a table b to which the article c to be treated is clamped, and at each side of the table is a slide e carrying a sandpapering belt f, of a width at least equal to that of the article c, passing over a table or pad g, over pulleys h, and tensioned by a device n and driven by an electric motor i or by other means. Each slide is movable on the bed to and from the work by a cam l engaged by an adjustable roller l<3> on the slide e to move the belt rapidly into proximity with the work, to give a slow feed until the work is to size, to give a quick return, and a dwell in the inoperative position for replacement of the work. The work table b may be oscillated across the belts by an eccentric and a, lever r, and the tables g may be pivoted at g<1> and adjustable by rods s to produce tapered work ; the table b also may be adjustable vertically. Blunt pointed bars w may be provided for centring the work ; a dust hood x is provided. The cams l are adjustably mounted on a shaft m by adjustable stopa l<1> and are pressed by springs o engaging adjustable collars l<2>, in order to press the belts resiliently against the work ; the belts may be oscillated instead of the table b.
