Abstract

264,625. Critchley, H. Nov. 14, 1925. Band apparatus.-In a belt grinding or polishing machine for treating moulded work, in which the belt is shaped at the operative point by a former, and the work is pressed against the belt by a support, means are provided for guiding, flexing and pre-forming the belt before it reaches, and after it leaves, the former. The abrasive belt f runs on pulleys d supported by brackets c on a table a and the belt is tensioned by a weighted jockey pulley e. Above the bolt is a holder h for interchangeable formers k, the holder either being carried by a counterbalanced lever i or by guide bolts engaging a plate on the lever or on a slide and carrying springs pressing the holder downwards. The work is supported between a centreing socket w<1> and a chuck x mounted on a carriage v movable on rails on a member w mounted on a support l which is angularly adjustable on a slide m. The slide is movable in guides n on the table a and may be moved by a pedal t against the action of springs p which lift the table a distance regulated by a stopscrew r and a members. The belt is guided and pre-formed when approaching and leaving the former k by wheels u adjustable by screws u<1>; or pairs of wheels may be used acting on both faces of the belt, the belt being formed in either case by the wheels into a V to conform more easily to the shape of the former; more than one series of wheels may be used. In operation, the carriage v is moved by hand and the work is rotated by a handle y; for spiral work gearing may be provided for rotating and feeding the work. Specification 264,624 is referred to.
