Abstract
198,717. Parker, J. W. Dec. 14, 1921. Combined turning, boring, and drilling machines.-A grinding-machine adapted for boring, drilling, turning &c., comprises a support 2, in the apertured and split head of which a member 34 is adjustably secured at the desired angle to the vertical. A tool 4 is carried by a spindle 39, which is journaled in a sleeve 38 axially movable in the member 34 by means of a hand-wheel and a gear 40, driven from a motor 5 by a belt 47. The motor is carried by a member 35. which is located in the split end of the member 34, a spring 49 being located between these members so that by loosening and then re-tightening the clamping bolts of the head of the support 2, the belt 47 is put under the correct tension. The work-holder 3, which may be a three-jawed chuck or a magnetic chuck, is rotated in a sleeve 12 by a belt 27 passing from the motor 5 over spring- controlled jockey-pulleys 32 to a pulley 18, bevel gears 20, 21 transmitting the motion from the pulley to the spindle 13 of the chuck. The sleeve 12 is axially adjustable in a member 11 by means of a hand-wheel 17. The member 11 is angularly adjustable on a slide 8 which is movable on horizontal guides 7. A boss on the side of the member 34 can accommodate a cutting-tool so that the apparatus can be used as a lathe.
