620,181. Grinding and polishing. NAUGE, J. J. Dec. 11, 1946, No. 36569. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] The headstock of a multipurpose machine tool is slidably mounted on a vertical support 2 which is spaced laterally from the single hollow beam 4 constituting the bed of the machine, the arrangement being such that the saddle 5 can pass under the headstock. The foundation 1 and the support 2 are of reinforced concrete. The headstock and tailstock 19 are adjustable on vertical guideways by means of threaded rods 18, 20, while the headstock spindle is driven by belt 3a from the motor 3. An arm 11 is provided for supporting various components such as a stock support 14 and a tool head 12, Fig. 13. The spindle of the latter is driven by a belt 16 and is angularly adjustable about the arm 11. The saddle is provided with a compound rest, the top slide 7 of which may be positioned as shown in Fig. 13 to form a work table. The machine can be used for surface, circular, and internal grinding operations, in addition to knurling and polishing and tool sharpening.
