603,134. Combined turning, boring, milling, and planing &c. machines. ROSSMANITH, W. Dec. 12, 1945, No. 33659. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A multiple machine tool for turning, boring, milling, planing and grinding comprises a bed 1 pivoted on a frame 10 at 11 and having slides 3, 4 and a headstock 2 carrying an electric motor 9 and spindle 8, the headstock being slidable on the bed in a direction perpendicular to the spindle axis. The machine may be used as a centre lathe, by mounting a tailstock 13, Fig. 2, on the bed and a tool-holder 12 on the slide 4, or as a surfacing lathe by adjusting the headstock upwards to raise the centre height and raising the tool holder by means of a packing- piece. For horizontal milling or boring, a milling-arbor on the spindle 8 may be supported by an outboard bearing carried by an overarm attached to the top of the headstock, or a boring-bar may be supported by an adjustable support mounted on the bed. For vertical milling or drilling, the bed is rotated through 90 degrees and supported by a strut 17, Fig. 5, and an overhung table 18 is fitted on the slide 4. For planing, either horizontally or vertically, a crank disc 22, Fig. 10, carrying a crank-pin engaging a connecting-rod 23 pivoted on the bed 1 is fitted to the spindle 8 and a tool-holder 24 is fitted on an overarm 15.
