764,616. Multi-purpose machine-tools. MAIER, K. Sept. 3, 1954 [Sept. 5, 1953], No. 25662/54. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A bench-type machine-tool comprises interchangeable components which can be assembled to form a lathe or a drilling, boring, buffing, grinding, filing, milling or circular-sawing machine, &c., the components including a headstock 1, Figs. 1 and 3, having a plug 9 to engage a hole 21 in the machine-bed 11, a column 27, Fig. 5, having a similar plug 28, and a bracket 30 slidable on the column and having a similar hole 21<SP>1</SP>. The plugs 21 &c. are secured in any of the desired positions by tapered pins 22 &c. having screwed ends. The headstock has a motor 6 attached thereto by straps 7, and a faceplate 5, drill-chuck or lathe-chuck is fitted on the spindle 3, locked in an adjusted axial position by a lever 8. The tail-stock 25 and slide 15 move on bars 14 and the cross-slide 18 on bars 17. The cross-slide carries a tool-post, a boring or milling table, a workpiece or the faceplate 5. The plug 9 is rotatably mounted in the headstock so that the latter can be clamped in any angular position, either on the bed 11 or on the bracket 30. The bracket 30 is shaped to permit it to be held in the hand to form a handdrill or hand buffing-machine. Specification 655,292 is referred to.
