Abstract
694,632. Drilling; milling; planing; turning. LUCE, H., and HOMMEL GES, H. April 12, 1949, No. 9942/49. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXIII] A combined boring, milling, turning and planing machine comprises two beds 1, 5 at right angles to each other, each bed having mounted thereon a compound tool, or work, slide-rest 2, 3 or 7, 8. The bottom slides are displaceable along the beds by rack-andpinion gears. The bed 5 is rotatably mounted in a bearing socket 4 on the bed 1. The bottom slides have work-holding surfaces thereon and can be removed and turned through 180 degrees. In such a position, the lower slide may be fed by gearing connected to a shaft 9 and, through a cardan shaft, with a gear-box on the bed 1. A headstock may be mounted on the bed 1 and a lathe-tool on the slide 3. Alternatively, a grinding-wheel may be driven by the headstock and the work mounted on the slide 3. A tailstock and a rotary table may also be mounted on the beds or on the slides. An electric hand-drill may be mounted on one of the slides, or a milling or grinding-head on the slide 7. Index pins are provided for setting each slide in its mean position.
