964,425. Lathes; beds. GEB. HEINEMANN A.G. WERKZENGMASCHINENFABRIK. Nov. 16, 1960 [Oct. 11, 1960], No. 39354/60. Headings B3B and B3T. A multi-purpose lathe has independent upper and lower sets of horizontal guideways arranged one above the other and has two feed shafts arranged in a slot between one set of guideways and a further feed shaft arranged in a slot between the other set of guideways. The set of guideways 5, 5; 6, 6 are arranged in different planes on the lathe bed and may be vertical or have a slight inclination (10 degrees). Two feed-shafts 2, 3, are provided for the upper set of guideways and one feed-shaft 1 is provided for the lower set of guideways. Various arrangements of slides can be mounted on the guideways to be operated by the feed-shafts or independently thereof. The feed-shafts are provided with separate gear-box and drive mechanism so that they can operate individually or simultaneously and may be interchanged or replaced. Slides and accessories referred to include transverse, hydrauliccopying, longitudinal and turret and a tailstock. The turret may have its own motor for indexing. The straight down bed arrangement facilitates the collection of cuttings in a trolley at the front of the machine.
