Abstract

247,691. Artus, R. Dec. 11, 1924. Combined turning, drilling, and milling machines. - In a combination metal-cutting machine, the spindle g is carried in a headstock g<1> which is mounted on a column k and is steadied by a back stay h, the spindle being driven in this direction by belt gearing from a treadle a. A stepped pulley on the driving shaft drives the overhead shaft c which carries pulleys d of different diameter arranged to drive pulleys e on the spindle in opposite directions, a clutch f being employed to bring either drive into operation. A second head carrying a vertical spindle for drilling or milling, may be mounted over the headstock g<1> and driven from the shaft c as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. A table i, adjustable on the column k, carries a slide rest having a cross-actuated slide l which is actuated either from a hand wheel l<1> or from a second wheel P through worm gearing. The longitudinal movement is also obtained from the shaft actuating slide l by means of bevel gearing m<1> and a coupling m which is actuated from a handle m<2> and automatically disengages the cross feed when the longitudinal feed is engaged. An arm n on the headstock carries an adjustable tailstock n' which is steadied by a support n<2>.
