Abstract

.219,921. Krause & Co. Akt.-Ges., E. Aug. 3, 1923, [Convention date]. Combined turning, drilling, milling, and shaping machines.-In a combination metal-cutting machine tool selectively operated milling, drilling, and shaping units are mounted at the headstock end of a lathe, the horizontal shaper ram being guided within a box-like portion of the lathe-bed. The machine is driven from a countershaft which is rotated either by belt gearing from a line shaft or through toothed gears 52 and clutch 56 from an electric motor. A cone puley 54 on the countershaft drives through belt gearing a stepped pulley 2 on the lathe spindle 1 provided with the usual back gears. A sliding member 8 on the lathe-spindle has double clutch teeth which may be engaged alternatively with a wheel 5 to drive the spindle or with a fixed part 10 to hold the spindle against movement. The latter position may be used for cutting grooves, the tool-slide being traversed along the stationary work. The lead-screw is driven from a wheel' 11 on the spindle through gears 12, 47 and reversing bevel gears 48 cn a shaft 15, the latter being connected by change gears to the lead screw. The unidirectional vertical shaft 17 is connected through further bevel gearing 18, shaft 20 and gears 22 to an oscillating link 23 driving the shaper ram 24. A clutch is provided on the shaft 20 for controlling the shaper drive, a safety device ensuring that this drive is not engaged when the table 27 is above the path of the ram. The milling-spindle 29 has an arbor.33 supported in an outboard bearing 50, and is driven through a sliding wheel 31 from a wheel 30 on the lathe spindle. For milling, a continuous table feed is provided by means of gearing, Fig. 4, operated from the bevel gearing 18 through gears 37, shaft 39, gears 40, shaft 42, universal shaft 36 and spiral gears 34. An intermittent table feed for shaping operations is obtained by disengaging one of the gears 37 and driving the shaft 39 by ratchet mechanism 43 actuated through lever mechanism, Fig. 1, from the cross-shaft carrying the oscillating link 23. The drilling-adjunct is driven through a pedal-operated clutch 57 from a cone-pulley 55 on the main countershaft and is slidably mounted on its bracket to vary the overhang of the spindle.
