Abstract

360,089. Leather-shaving machines. WAYLAND, F., Salem, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Aug. 11, 1930, No. 24373. [Classes 31 (i) and 76.] Milling-cutters, machines with.-A machine of the kind having a rotary shaving-cutter 13 and a bed roll 14 which can be moved into operative rigid relation to the cutter e.g. by means of a toggle device 21, 22, 24, 28, 31, is provided with a positively driven pinch roll 11 which coacts with the bed roll to advance an endless apron 14a by which the work is fed. The pinch roll is mounted in adjustable bearings and is driven by a chain 40 actuated through chain and sprocket wheel gearing from the main haft 47. Also driven from the shaft 47 are the cutter 13, a brush 69 for preventing hides from sticking to the cutter, and a grinding wheel 8 splined on a shaft 7 and traversed therealong by an arm 59 carrying a shoe 61 engaging a helical groove in a rotated shaft 62. The shaft 7 is mounted in slide blocks and may be adjusted relatively to the cutter by worm gearing 54, 55, 56. A table 36 underlies the horizontal portion of the apron. The bed roll 14 may be mounted on a relatively flexible shaft 72, Fig. 3, its movement being controlled by rollers 75 on a shaft 73 parallel with shaft 72 and provided with an adjustable stop 76. A rigid guide roll 77 bears on the underside of the roll 14.
