Abstract

261,146. Turner, E. Sept. 28, 1925. Pile or nap, raising.-In a singeing machine the nap is raised prior to singeing by suction. The fabric is passed over the aperture b in a vacuum box a, the aperture being adjusted in length by rods p according to the width of the fabric, and in width to vary the degree of treat. ment by adjusting one of the two lips c, c<1> of the aperture. The box a is preferably arranged at a point where the fabric has a solid backing, e.g. over a guide roll, or a plate k adjustably supported by springs m and screws l. The length of the aperture may be determined by plates q sliding on a tube o extending through the box a and operated by wires r and springs s. The invention described in the Provisional Specification is not restricted to use in a singeing machine, Specification 248,810 is referred to.
