644,783. High-frequency discharge apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. May 22, 1947, No. 13788. Convention date, June 16, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge tube for use with very short waves, two or more electrodes, for example the electrodes 1, 2 of a diode, are located at a distance apart not exceeding 100 microns and preferably between 20 and 40 microns, by one or more spacing members each consisting of a wire core 3 coated with insulating material 4, which is embraced at each end by a metal part 5 secured to the end of one of the electrodes. The wire core 3 may be of a material having a low coefficient of expansion such as a nickel-iron or chromium-nickel alloy, nickel tungsten or molybdenum, and the metal parts 5 may be of like material. The insulating material may consist of magnesium, aluminium or beryllium oxides. The metal parts 5 may be rings or as shown helices which grip the insulating layer and are. spot-welded to the electrodes.
