Abstract

602,306. X-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 12, 1943, No. 18830. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] The target surface of the anode of an X-ray tube for radiographic or diagnostic purposes is formed of a metal treated so as to have its grain structure arranged in parallel relation and extending obliquely to the target surface. The whole surface of the anode may be formed in this manner ; as described, a button 21, Fig. 4, is cut transversely from a bar of the target material, e.g. tungsten or copper which has been rolled along its length. The button may be elliptical or circular in shape and is cast in or soldered in a recess 31 of the anode and is arranged so that the grain structure is directed along the direction of the cathode. Preferably, pure electrolytic metal is used.
