Abstract
339,891. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Kearsley, W. K.) Feb. 27, 1929, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. R÷ntgen-ray tubes.-Alloys of copper and aluminium, preferably containing 0.25 to 2 per cent of aluminium, are used instead of copper as the backing of anticathodes. The decrease in the space current, and so in the ray output, occurring with copper backings during the course of an exposure, possibly due to the poisoning of the cathode by gases evolved from the anticathode, is thus prevented or a rising current may be produced. An alloy containing 1 per cent of aluminium gives substantially steady current for 2 minutes. The backing has a tungsten inset cast or peened therein and is made slightly larger than corresponding copper backings to allow for its decreased heat and electrical conductivity.
