Abstract

313,010. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Force, J.). June 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Residual gases.-Early failure of the filament and blackening of the bulb due to corrosion caused by water vapour are eliminated by disposing adjacent to the filament a powdered refractory metal, e.g. tungsten or tantalum, which is more susceptible to the water vapour. In the example shown the nickel leading-in conductor 13 supporting the filament 10 carries the metal powder 11, which may be mixed with alcohol or a cellulose binder as described in Specification 11544/15 and may be applied by dipping or painting.
