Abstract

643,283. X-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 13, 1947, No. 7039. Convention date, March 14, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a rotary anode 14 for an X-ray tube, deterioration such as cracking, peeling or flaking of the annular tungsten target 16 due to non- uniform expansion when subjected to excessive heating in the bombardment area, is minimized by the provision of an insert 21 of heat-insulating material, such as graphite or ceramic material such as lava, aluminium oxide or beryllium oxide, between the back of the target plate opposite the bombardment area and the main copper base 20 of the anode, so that the target is connected to the base only at the inner and outer edges of the target, where alloying occurs during the manufacture of the anode.
