Abstract

675,163. Electrode materials. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. May 6. 1947 [Dec. 14, 1944], No. 12237/47. Class 39 (i). To maintain constant the operation of an electrode emitting secondary electrons, such as the grid of a transmitting valve designed to emit secondary electrons in a one-to-one ratio and so to receive a net current of zero, the electrode has a coating of a mixture of secondary emitting material such as one or both of the oxides of magnesium and beryllium, and a material of good heat-radiating properties such as carbon or black oxides of titanium, molybdenum, zirconium, or tungsten. The heatradiating material ensures the maintenance of the electrode at a low temperature. A mixture of soot and magnesia may be applied to the electrode by means of a suspension. Part of the electrode may be left uncoated, or may be coated only with secondary-emitting material, or only with heat-radiating material.
