Abstract

643,323. Metal-to-glass seals. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and SCOTT, W. J. Dec. 12, 1946, No. 36753. [Class 36] A lead-in conductor 1, for an electricdischarge device, condenser or the like, is sealed through a glass bead 3 to a metal eyelet of stepped or coned form soldered in an aperture of the metal casing. As shown in Fig. 5, the bead may be formed by fusing a length of glass tubing 13 fitted between the eyelet 2 and conductor 1 whilst assembled in a jig 11. Cobalt-nickel-iron alloys, such as those described in Specification 358,934, [Group II], may be used for the eyelet and conductor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 597,035 and 624,489.
