578,848. Uniting metal to glass. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and SCOTT, W. J. March 2, 1943, No. 3457. [Class 36] In electron discharge devices with concentric leads 1, 3 sealed through the envelope at a pinch, the seal between the leads is situated at the pinch, so that both the pinch and seal are made or completed simultaneously. The outer lead 1 may be slotted at the pinch so that the glass of the stem 2 and bead 4 may fuse together. In a modification, the outer lead may be distorted when forming the pinch so as to be completely filled by the bead 4, or it may be formed by metal blanks joined together by wires. In the latter case, the bead may be dispensed with.
