Abstract

652,255. Glass-to-metal seals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HAYES, A. G., and MOORE, R. C. Oct. 14, 1947, No. 27518. [Class 36] [Also in Group XL (a)] A glass envelope which is fabricated from two or more separate parts has a metallic coating on at least one of the edges of the parts which are subsequently sealed together, so that it then forms an electrically conducting path through the glass wall. The coating may be formed by painting with liquid silver or platinum. The glass parts are fused together directly or by means of a low melting point glass. The metallic deposit may be thickened by any other means, e.g. electrochemical, before sealing.
