Abstract
596,920. Metal - to - - glass seals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BREADNER, R. L., and SIMMS, C. H. April 10, 1945, No. 8839. [Class 36] In glass - sealing a conductor-lead 3 to a flanged metal eyelet 6, the latter is assembled on a die 1 profiled to fit the step 10 of the part 6. A glass tube 12 is then mounted on the step 10 and softened by heat whilst suction is applied through the aperture 5 of the die to cause the glass to collapse on to the lead 3 and into the neck 9 of the part 6. As shown, the lead 3 is pre-fitted with a glass bead 11 as, for example, described in Specification 575,084.
