Abstract
630,028. Metal-to-glass seals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 28, 1947, No. 5835. Convention date, May 12, 1945. [Class 36] A stem for vacuum-tubes, Fig. 1, comprising beaded leads 1 fused in a glass disc 4 are produced by surrounding the beads 2 with small glass tubes 3, Fig. 6, assembling the leads in spaced parallel position, fusing the tubes to form the disc 4 integrated with the beads, Fig. 3, assembling a large-diameter glass tube 5, Fig. 1, over the grouped leads, and fusing the tube 5 in the zone of the beads to consolidate the collapsed tube into union with the disc 4. Fig. 8 shows a mould for shaping the disc from the melted tubes 3. The collapse of the tube 5 around the disc may be assisted by an axial pull on one end of the tube.
