[Class 44] [Also in Group X] A device for clamping a rod to another object in adjustable angular position comprises a pair of complementary clamping members for the rod, a third member secured to the other object, and a common clamping stud for the three members, wherein one of the clamping members and the third member also form engaging friction discs concentric with and relatively angularly adjustable about the stud, the device including a spring causing the clamp members to grip the rod when-the clamping stud is slackened to remove pressure from the discs. In the device shown, the rods 1. 2, are clamped by means of a stud 3 threaded at each end and having a collar 3a in the middle. Bearing against the collar is a spring washer 4, and next is a friction disc member 5, having its inner face recessed to form a socket 5a housing the spring and half the collar 3a which serves as a spigot centralizing the discs. On the back of the disc 5 is a half clamp part 5b having a segmental recess 5c to engage the rod 1. Next on the stud is located the complementary clamp member 6, having a recess 6e, a foot 6a bearing on the member 5, and a bore 6b with ample clearance on the stud. The clamping nut 7 is preferably formed to seat in a corresponding conical or spherical countersink in the member 6. Another similar set of parts, viz., spring washer, clamps 15 and 16, and nut 17 is provided on the opposite side of the collar 3a. Stud 3 is long enough to permit nuts 7, 17 to be run back sufficiently for the clamp jaws to be slipped over the rods. Before the nuts are tightened, each spring washer exerts an initial elastic grip on a rod, and the desired adjustment can then be made. A base plate for the rod 2 may comprise a stud 8 welded to a plate 9 and screwing into a socket member 10 in which rod 2 is secured by a set screw 11. Stud 3 may be extended at either end and another rod 11 secured thereto by an internally threaded coupler 12.
