Abstract

896,964. Clamps. RAMSDEN, C. May 28, 1959 [June 12, 1958; Feb. 17, 19591, No. 18280/59. Class 44. A clamp for holding together a pair of tubes 11 or the like comprises a pair of oppositely positioned clamping members 12 with a part cylindrical recess 13 in each, a boss 17 on each member bored normally to the length of the recess, a bolt 15 fitting slidably through the bores to support the clamping members in the direction of the axis of the bolt, a single washer 14 positioned on the bolt between the clamping members and having opposite faces each comprising a surface inwardly curved to the same radius as that of the recess in the adjacent clamping members 12 to eventually support the pair of tubes or the like and nuts 16 on each end of the bolt to force the clamping members towards the washer. The washer 14 may be screw threaded on to the bolt or it may be welded thereto and the curved surfaces of the washer in the arrangement according to Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) include part cylindrical surfaces to provide surface instead of line contact with the tubes. The tube-contacting surfaces of the clamp may be serrated or have rubber bonded thereto.
