Abstract

630,409. Screw clamps. GEORGE & BECKER, Ltd., W. & J., and MORRIS, R. H. Oct. 23, 1947, No. 28312. [Class 44] A clamp for use m scientific demonstrations comprises a screwed mounting rod 10, pairs of clamping members A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP>, A<SP>4</SP> of a synthetic resinous material grooved to receive rods 20, 21 which are to be secured together, the clamping members being drawn together by nuts 19 on the mounting rod, acting through metal washers 18. The member A<SP>2</SP> is screw threaded and locked in a set position on the rod 10 by a lock-nut 17 fitting in a recess and formed with holes 17a for engagement by a key. The outer faces of the members are recessed at 15a to receive the washers. In a modification, to grip more than one rod, the clamping members are formed with two grooves parallel to opposite sides, or four grooves, one parallel to each side. The wing- nuts and washers may be replaced by flat nuts fitting in the recesses 15a and turned by a key engaging in holes in the faces of the nuts.
