Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed-February 4, 1920. Serial No. 356,313.
Be'it known that I, OTTO H; HUNT, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Walla Walla, in the county of Walla Walla and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to clamping means and has for its objects to provide a means of this class that may be cheaply constructed, that is highly eificient, that maybe applied to irregularly contoured surfaces, and which is particularly applicable to supporting signal devices for motor vehicles.
This application expressly disclaims any and all subject matter claimed in my former patent filed February 5, 1918, and numbered 1,279,114, and dated September 17, 1918, on signal device for motor vehicles.
With the above and other objects in view reference is now had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of the device as clamped to a figure having parallel sides; 7
Fig. 2 is a front elevation with the jaws in a straight clamping position;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation with the aws in a distorted clamping position; and
Fig. is a sectional view through the clamping means showing the conical openings.
Having reference to the drawings like numerals refer to like parts throughout and the nume 'al 1 represents the jaw members, one of which has a rear portion or shoulder 2 and an extended portion 3 forming a shank and terminating in a threaded stem 4.
)n this shank is a circular disk 5 against which the signal or other device may be secured by means of a nut in threaded engagement with the stem 41;
The other of said aw members carries a rear portion 6 and an inwardly extending portion 7 of triangular form; the apex of the triangle being positioned against the a movable fulcrum.
of the lug permits of a greater variation in first mentioned rear portion 2 and acts as Thetr angular form T OFFICE. 1
the position of the jaws with bolts not having excessive lengths.
Both rear] portions are provided with conical openings 8, shown in Fig. 1, and through these openings are the clamping bolts 9 which hold the jaws rigidly together by aid of the nuts 10. These nuts I prefer constructed with a slight shoulderl'l which willprovide a little better seating for the nut although a standard nut 12, as shown in Fig. 1, will answer the purpose very nicely.
In use the jaws are placed upon the or ticle to be, clamped and the bolts are tightened in the usual manner which hclds the clamp rigidly in position.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim.
1. Ina clamp, a pair of aw members, one of said jaw members having a rear portion and an extended portion forming a shank, and terminating in a threaded stem, the
other of said jaw members having a rear portion and an inwardly extending projecting lug, conical openings in the rear portion of both of said jaw members, and a clamping means positioned in said conical openings.
and positioned-with the apex of the trian-' gle in contact with the rear portion of the first mentioned jaw member, conical openings in the rear portion of both of said jaw members, and a clamping means positioned in said conical openings.
In testimony whereof 1 affix my signature.
