Abstract

423,151. Scaffold clamps. BURTON, J., 49, Sandon Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. June 6, 1934, No. 16787. [Class 20 (ii)] A scaffold clamp is provided with a single adjustable member which enables scaffolding members to be gripped by the clamp in two directions at right angles. The clamp comprises a pair of elongated jaws 1 of curved section for gripping one scaffold member, each jaw being provided with a curved-section lateral extension 5 adapted partially to enclose a second scaffolding member 6, a clamping member 9 loosely hinged on a pin 8 carried by a pair of lugs 7 disposed at one end of the jaws, and a clamping bolt 11 loosely hinged between another pair of lugs 7 disposed at the other end of the jaws. Adjustment of the nut 13 of the clamping bolt causes the jaws 2 to be rocked from the open position shown in Fig. 5, to the gripping position shown in Fig. 4, whereby both scaffolding members 4 and 6 are simultaneously gripped. The clamping bolt may be carried by the hinged cap, and screw into an aperture provided in the pivotal pin 8.
