Abstract

535,305. Vices. OFFEN. J. H. Oct. 3, 1939. No. 27136. [Class 61(ii)] A vice 21 with universal adjustment is mounted on a ball 19 movable within a cup member 17 slotted at 18 to accommodate the vice stem 20 and located in a hollow at the top of a bush 12 upstanding from a base 10. The bush 12 has a projecting circular flange 14 providing an abutment for a split-collar 15 threaded to engage an interior thread on the end of a cylindrical extension of the cup member 17. The ball 19 is clamped in adjusted position by a concave washer 28 engaged by a plunger 26 located in a vertical bore 13 and operated by a rod 29 located in a horizontal bore 30 actuated by a rod 31 screwing in a threaded bore, the member 17 being at the same time clamped against rotation by the pressure of the split collar 15 against the flange 14. In a modification the flat base member is replaced by a vertical tabular member having projecting arms with clamping screw for fixing to a bench and a rotatable vertical screw for operating the ball-clamping washer.
