Abstract

645,743. Cramps. EATWELL, E. C. Oct. 15, 1948, No. 26908. [Class 61(ii)] In a woodworker's cramp for holding tapered work, having a pair of brackets 20, 23 adjustable on a bar 10, the clamping plates 34 are carried by the brackets and are angularly adjustable in relation thereto. The flat plates 34 are each formed integrally with a threaded stud 35 whereon is formed a hemispherical bearing 36 which engages in a circular aperture in the bracket to form a universal joint, each plate being held in the bracket by a rubber ring 38 fitted over the stud, and a cap nut 37. The bracket 20 is attached to a shoe 14 slidable on the bar 10 which has holes 18 in the base thereof in which a stud 17 in the base of the shoe is adapted to engage, a spring catch 21 holding the shoe in position. The four-sided bracket 23 attached to a U-shaped shoe 15 slidable on the bar 10 is moved to clamp the work by a screw 27 which passes through a threaded housing 29 held on the bar 10 by a pin 33 having on its lower end a stud 12. The bar 10 is held on a bench by a bracket 11 and the stud 12 which engages in a recess in the plate 13.
